CHICAGO, Illinois. June 9, 2020 (By Jaime Di Paulo, President & Chief Executive Officer, Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce | IHCCBusiness.net) — Amidst differences between some Governors and the White House over the reopening of the economy while controlling the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequences left by the protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (IHCC) calls for solidarity without meanness.
Our organization calls on all levels of government to continue and focus on helping those millions of small businesses that are the backbone of our economy and need us more than ever. Those who believe the worst is over are wrong. Today is a time of peace; we want our country to start healing the past, our present, but especially our future. Today we must focus on us, beyond what makes us different.
We must be supportive, recognize how difficult and tortuous our history has been, and remember those who do not know their history are condemned to repeat it. Today we must be brothers and sisters, but first, we must be patriotic. We demand all Illinois political representatives make the best of themselves to give better results and understand that there is only one moment in public life: that where the government is exercised, the laws are respected and results are sought.
It’s time to work together with the Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, and Governor JB Pritzker. They are busy governing beyond the speculations that always exist in an election year. The election agenda must not divert us. There is much do here and now.
It is time for solidarity and unconditional work, side by side, between authorities, business leaders, chambers of commerce, and entrepreneurs. We need to work harder to reconstruct every corner of this beautiful state, without discrimination and focusing on promoting entrepreneurs and small businesses, which are the heart of our economy.
