The Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ), in collaboration with the Celia Cruz Estate and Bank of America, has announced a press conference and media availability with key figures behind the tribute.

FORT LEE, NJ. May 7, 2025 (Biz Republic) — The legendary Celia Cruz, an undisputed icon of Latin music and a source of pride for the Hispanic community, will be honored this Friday, May 9, with a star on the Walk of Fame at the Barrymore Film Center in Fort Lee, New Jersey — a town the Cuban singer once called home.

Ahead of the heartfelt ceremony, the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ), in collaboration with the Celia Cruz Estate and Bank of America, has announced a press conference and media availability with key figures behind the tribute. Media access will be open from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., followed by the official ceremony at 2:00 p.m., at the Barrymore Film Center, located at 153 Main Street, Fort Lee.

Among those participating are Linda Bequer-Pritchett, Celia Cruz’s niece, who will accept the honor on behalf of the artist; Omer Pardillo-Cid, executor of the Celia Cruz Estate; and Tony-nominated actress Olga Merediz, who will serve as emcee. Also in attendance will be Carlos Medina and Luis O. De La Hoz, president and board chairman of SHCCNJ, respectively, along with Alberto Garofalo, president of Bank of America New Jersey.

The event is part of “The Celia Project,” a yearlong celebration marking the centennial of the Queen of Salsa’s birth, driven by Bank of America. The initiative honors her musical legacy and cultural impact, particularly within New Jersey’s Latino community and beyond.

This tribute is more than a celebration of Celia Cruz’s legacy — it is also a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey and Bank of America to elevate Latino culture, memory, and excellence. Through initiatives like this, SHCCNJ continues to lead with purpose, connecting generations and honoring icons who paved the way for future leaders. Their presence at the heart of this event is no coincidence; it reflects a long-standing mission to preserve and amplify the stories that shape Hispanic identity in the Garden State and beyond.

Equally vital is the role of Bank of America, whose support for “The Celia Project” demonstrates a deep investment in cultural legacy and community impact. By championing this yearlong celebration, the bank reinforces its position not just as a financial institution, but as a cultural ally — one that recognizes the power of music, heritage, and memory to unite communities. In honoring Celia, they are also honoring every voice she inspired — with rhythm, pride, and a touch of timeless azúcar.

Her legacy continues to be celebrated across New Jersey, including the 2022 renaming of the Forked River Service Area on the Garden State Parkway in her name, and a 2024 exhibit at the New Jersey Hall of Fame at American Dream.
