JERSEY CITY, N.J. September 24, 2025 — On Saturday, September 20, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy proudly hosted the 4th Annual Strides for Safety 5K Against Gun Violence in Lincoln Park. The Strides for Safety 5K is an opportunity for people to come together for an important cause – to run or walk to raise awareness and end gun violence in Hudson County and the nation. This year, the Strides for Safety 5K Against Gun Violence had more than 500 registered attendees and 30 volunteers.
“As a former JCPD officer and now as County Executive, I’ve dedicated my life to public safety. I understand the value of working with the community to keep everyone safe. Almost every day, there’s a new shooting in the news – another family mourning and communities in fear of facing this kind of violence themselves. The Strides for Safety 5K is dedicated to putting this issue front and center and ending this senseless violence. In the world we are currently living in, we must make clear that violence of any kind – especially political violence – has no place in Hudson County and in our country,” said Craig Guy, Hudson County Executive.
“I want to sincerely thank the many Hudson County residents, families, and volunteers who joined together to demonstrate the gravity of this critical issue and end gun violence in our community through the Hudson County Strides for Safety 5K. I look forward to next year’s event, but in the meantime, we must do all we can to end this scourge here in Hudson County and across the United States.”
The County offered a USA Track & Field-certified 5K course to runners and walkers that showcased the grandeur of Lincoln Park in Jersey City. This certification confirms the course distance is accurately measured and that results can be accepted as a record or be nationally ranked by CompuScore. Following the race, runners and walkers, as well as their families, attended the awards ceremony with food and refreshments as well as musical entertainment, family activities, and local safety community organizations.
Health-focused vendors provided residents with yoga classes, fruit juices, and massages. Jersey City’s own Jaime Tlatelpa was the overall winner of the race, finishing with a time of 16 minutes and 17 seconds. Brianna Davis was the top overall female performer, finishing with a time of 21 minutes and 1 second. To view the full results, click here.
