Hudson County Executive Craig Guy Celebrates Caribbean American Heritage Month with Flag Raising

“During the month of June, Hudson County is proud to celebrate Caribbean diaspora communities by raising the Caribbean American Heritage flag. These flag raisings are just one of the many ways we recognize and honor the diversity that enriches our County,” said Hudson County Executive Guy.

JERSEY CITY, NJ. July 1, 2025 — Hudson County Executive Craig Guy celebrated National Caribbean American Heritage Month with a flag raising at the Historic Brennan Court House. County Executive Guy was joined by the Board of County Commissioners, Hudson County Director of Cultural & Heritage Affairs/Tourism Development Gina Hulings, Congressman Rob Menendez (NJ-08), and Ambassador Cheryl DB Murphy, Founder and CEO of the Jersey City Caribbean American Cultural Foundation and JC Carnival.

The event featured ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,’ the National Black Anthem written by James Weldon Johnson, and ‘Celebrating CARICOM’ written by Michele Henderson.

“During the month of June, Hudson County is proud to celebrate Caribbean diaspora communities by raising the Caribbean American Heritage flag. These flag raisings are just one of the many ways we recognize and honor the diversity that enriches our County,” said Hudson County Executive Guy. “Congratulations to the Jersey City Caribbean American Cultural Foundation and Founder Cheryl DB Murphy for dedicating 30 years to building community and connecting Hudson County residents to their cultural roots.”

“I’m proud to join County Executive Guy and the Jersey City Caribbean American Cultural Foundation to commemorate National Caribbean American Heritage Month,” said Congressman Rob Menendez (NJ-08). “Our diaspora communities are integral to the strength of our country, and I am dedicated to continuing to advocate for their needs and addressing their concerns throughout the 8th District and the nation.”

“This year, we celebrate 30 years of the Jersey City Caribbean American Cultural Foundation (JCCACF) – a momentous anniversary that recognizes and celebrates our dedication to sustaining the diverse traditions and histories of Caribbean Americans throughout Hudson County,” said Ambassador Cheryl DB Murphy, Founder and CEO of the JCCACF and the JC Carnival.

Citations were presented to the following honorees: Dr. Claire Nelson, ICS-NCAHM Founder & CEO; Hudson County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs; The Positive Community; Sylvester Suarez, Guinness Import Peerless Beverage Community; Something Positive; Golden Krust Restaurant, Jersey City; DB Gems Consulting; Tyrone Chablis Productions, Carnival Meets Fashion; CCB International, Cynthia’s Caribbean Bakery; West Indian American Day Carnival Association; Mauby Media, Los Andulleros de Santiago USA, Jersey City Puerto Rican Heritage Parade; Kaisokah Moko Jumbies USA, Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute; World Ah Jab USA; Ken U Print; Alecia Reid, CBS Journalist; and the Jersey City Caribbean American Cultural Foundation Anniversary Committee.
