JERSEY CITY, N.J. October 28, 2025 — The Hudson County Chronicles has formally endorsed Israel “Izzy” Nieves for Jersey City Council At Large, praising his decades of public service and strong ties to the community. In an editorial titled “Izzy Nieves: From the People, For the People, With the People,” the publication described Nieves as “a top-tier campaigner and a credible, respected candidate whose time has truly come.”
The endorsement pointed to Nieves’ long record of service, from his time as a U.S. Marine to his role as a Jersey City Police Lieutenant, and argued that those experiences inform his candidacy. “That level of discipline, integrity, and commitment doesn’t fade when the uniform comes off,” the editorial stated, adding that his public service now “transitions into service of a different kind—public service driven by purpose and guided by principles.”
The editorial emphasized Nieves’ consistent presence throughout the city’s neighborhoods, saying his campaign “is not built on promises; it’s built on presence.” It noted that residents “don’t have to search for Izzy—he’s already there at the neighborhood events, the senior centers, the civic meetings, and the block gatherings, listening, learning, and leading.”
Highlighting the importance of representation, the Chronicles said Jersey City’s Latino community has been underserved in decision-making and framed Nieves as part of a continuing legacy. “For too long, our Latino community has been underrepresented in decision-making spaces,” the piece read, and it placed Nieves “in the proud tradition of leaders like Eliu Rivera and Jamie Vasquez—men who didn’t just serve, but uplifted their communities through inclusion and dignity.”
The endorsement framed Nieves as representing “the next chapter in Latino leadership—one that understands that progress isn’t about division, but collaboration.” It added that he has “earned respect across communities, bridging generations, ethnicities, and perspectives,” and that he is prepared to address local priorities.
The editorial listed Nieves’ priorities as advocating for safer streets, expanding affordable housing opportunities, and strengthening the relationship between law enforcement and residents, asserting that he “stands ready to bring integrity back to City Hall.”
“This election isn’t just about who can win votes; it’s about who can win trust. Izzy Nieves has already done that,” the Chronicles wrote, calling his campaign “not a leap of ambition but an extension of lifelong service.” The piece concluded by stressing the city’s need for leaders rooted in lived experience: “The people of Jersey City deserve leaders who have both lived the struggle and earned the respect of the streets they walk.”
In closing, the Hudson County Chronicles urged support for Nieves, declaring that when one examines “his record, his humility, and his consistency, it becomes clear he’s not running for power, he’s running for purpose,” and endorsing a candidate who “has always worked it — and now, works for us all.”
