BAYONNE, NJ. November 16, 2024 (Biz Republic)New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) held a hearing on Nov. 13, 2024, to listen to the public’s concerns with the sale of Bayonne Medical Center (BMC) to Hudson Regional Hospital (HRH). HRH Chairman Yan Moshe and CEO Dr. Nizar Kifaieh attended the hearing, where they listened to community members express strong support for Hudson Regional Hospital’s efforts to take over operations at Bayonne Medical Center.

Several doctors, including Dr. Nadeem Haque, Dr. Jeffrey Augustine, Dr. Mohammed Zubair, Dr. Howard Levine, Dr. Peter Wong, Dr. Zbigniew Moscynski, Dr. Devarajan Iyengar, and Dr. Mohammad Sandhu, along with community leaders such as Secaucus Town Administrator Gary Jeffas and Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, spoke about the needs of the hospital. They expressed confidence in HRH’s capability to effectively lead the hospital.

Speakers stressed the importance of long-term commitments to keep BMC open and praised HRH’s proven track record in revitalizing struggling hospitals. This hearing marked a crucial step in the state’s review process to determine the future of the hospital.

“Negotiations with vendors and insurers. New technology. Introducing a new surgical program. Each of these are ways in which Hudson Regional Hospital says it turned the struggling Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus into the profitable, well attended hospital it is today. And each of these, the hospital leadership says, are ways that they plan to do the same for Bayonne Medical Center (BMC) if they are approved to purchase it for $13 million,” said NJ.com.

Hudson Regional Hospital says it can make Bayonne Medical Center profitable within a year of taking over. Hospital purchases or mergers require state approval of Certificate of Need applications, and a public hearing is one step in the state’s decision-making process. HRH’s certificate of need application being considered by the state Department of Health (DOH) lays out a 13-point plan for how it will do so successfully.

The HRH-BMC plan is part of a merger proposal that would create a new, four-hospital healthcare system, Hudson Health System, that would include Insight, of Michigan, operating Christ Hospital and Hoboken University, CarePoint’s two other hospitals.
